One of the tasks of the Chapter is to collate statistics on women in Australian astronomy as a means of monitoring the progress of the status of women in astronomy over time. It is often reported that the number of women in astronomy positions is not increasing at a rate commensurate with the availability of qualified female students and that women are not represented at highest levels. Statistics will help back up these claims. As well as tracking the statistics of women in various ASA activities, including general membership, Council members, and participation in Annual Science Meetings, the Chapter also collates status on women in astronomy via the decadal review process.
